Zyxel Elite 2864I
Document Number: 4325
Last Modified: 11/13/96
OS: Windows 3.1 & 95Introduction
Pacific Bell Internet provides minimum support for the Zyxel Elite 2864I terminal adapter. What this means is that we have tested the hardware in our Simulation Lab and have found the following configuration to work. We have not done exhaustive testing. If you desire more support with connection difficulties than what this document provides, you should contact Zyxel technical support on 714-693-0808.Configuration
Our setup used the following:
- Zyxel Elite 2864I.
- Firmware version 2.05, mdmzyxus.zip (10/16/96) unzipped, and the beta Configuration Manager for Windows 3.1, utl31.zip, or Windows 95, utl95.zip.
- Win 95 ; Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
- We used connection through a serial port with a 16550 UART.
- A Pentium-133 with 32MB of RAM.
Windows 95
- Install the Zyxel Configuration manager software that came with the TA according to Zyxel's instructions.
- Upload the firmware to the TA. We ended up uploading the firmware using XMODEM per the documentation.
- Create a new modem description in the Modems Control Panel by pressing "Add" and pointing to the location of MDMZyXUS.INF. We used the "Elite 2864I V.34 POTS MPPP 128K" modem.
- Running the Configuration Manager, and operating on the ISDN tab, select "PPP" as the B-Channel Protocol and leave "In-Band Signaling" turned off. Set the switch type and SPIDs on the Switch tab.
- Go to the Modem Control Panel, and set up the Elite's modem description to use 2 B channels.
- Log into the PBI network. According to Zyxel, the second B channel comes up when demand requires it to, thus only 1 B channel will be up during login.
Windows 3.1
- Running the Configuration Manager, and operating on the ISDN tab, select "PPP" as the B-Channel Protocol and leave "In-Band Signaling" turned off. Set the switch type and SPIDs on the Switch tab.
- Install the Pacific Bell Internet software.
- Edit an entry in c:\pbi\dialer\modems.ini. Change the init string to "ATZ".
- You should now be able to run the Account Setup Wizard to set up your PBI account.
