Changing Your Dialer
To temporarily change the phone number:To create permanent secondary or multiple dialers:
Windows NT 4.0 users can access our Windows NT support document for assistance.
WINDOWS 95/98:
WINDOWS 3.1:
- Open the dialer, but do not select the 'Connect' button.
- On the line that says 'Phone Number', replace the phone number with the roaming access phone number.
- Select 'OK'.
MACINTOSH:
- Open the dialer, but do not select the 'Connect' button.
- Select the 'Properties' button.
- About half way down the screen, put in new POP phone number in 'Provider phone number' field.
- Click 'OK' at bottom of screen.
- Double-click on the 'Hard Drive' icon on the desktop.
- Double-click on the 'Pacific Bell Internet' folder.
- Double-click on the 'FreePPP Setup' icon.
- Click the 'Locations' tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Click 'Edit'.
- Change the phone number to the remote access number.
- Click 'OK'.
It is recommended that you change your dialer using the 'secondary dialer' instructions. This will ensure that you retain your original settings and telephone access number.
To create secondary or multiple permanent dialers:
WINDOWS 95/98:
WINDOWS 3.1:
- Double-click on 'My Computer' icon on desktop
- Double-click on 'Dial-Up Networking' folder
- Double-click on 'Make New Connection' icon
- Type in name of computer you are dialing (i.e. San Francisco)
- Select your modem (if not already selected)
- Click 'Next'
- Type in area code / phone number of POP you are trying to access
- Click 'Next'
- Click 'Finish'
A dialer will appear in the 'Dial-Up Networking' folder by the name you gave it.(step #4 above)
MACINTOSH:
- Go to the 'PBI' program group
- Double-click on the 'PBI Dialer' icon
- Click on the 'Properties' Button
- In the 'Location' section at the top of the screen, click 'New'
- In the 'Location's name:' field type in name of new location (i.e. San Francisco)
- In 'Location's area code' field, type in new area code
- About half way down the screen, put in new POP phone number in 'Provider phone number' field.
- Click 'OK' at bottom of screen
To switch between different locations, scroll through the 'Current Location' field located underneath the 'Password' field in the dialer, and select the connection you wish to make.
- Double-click on the 'Hard Drive' icon on the desktop
- Double-click on the 'Pacific Bell Internet' folder
- Double-click on the 'FreePPP Setup' icon
- Click on the 'Locations' tab at the bottom of the screen
- Click 'New'
- Type in new location's name in the 'Location name:' field
- Type in the area code and the phone number of new POP in corresponding fields
- Click 'OK' in lower right corner
To switch locations, simply go into the 'FreePPP Setup', click on the 'Locations' tab, and select which location you would like to access.
