Cayman 3220-H Router Configuration for Basic DSL

The following steps document the procedures required to open a session to your Cayman 3220-H for first time router and network configuration. These settings apply to Basic DSL users, on a Win95/98 platform, with a static IP address.

Step 1

Configuring TCP/IP for automatic IP assignment

Important!Before starting this procedure, be sure that Windows installation media is available. Depending on your system, 
this could be diskettes, CD-ROM, or installation files (also known as "*.CAB files") located on your hard drive.

  1. From the Start menu, choose Settings then Control Panel.
  2. Launch the Network icon.
  3. In the section labeled "The following network components are installed:" 
    select TCP/IP, and press the Properties button.


     
  4. Press the IP Address tab.
    Make sure Obtain an IP address automatically is selected 


     
  5. Press the WINS Configuration tab.
    Make sure Disable WINS Resolution is selected.

  6. Press the Gateway tab. Make sure there are no gateways
    listed beneath Installed gateways.



  7. Press the DNS Configuration tab. Select Disable DNS.


     
  8. Press OK twice. You may be prompted to Restart your computer.

Note:Configure each computer that will use the 3220-H's address sharing feature to use DHCP, as outlined above. Configure devices that will
not use address sharing with static IP addresses on the same network as the 3220-H. Restart each device after updating it's TCP/IP configuration.


Step 2

Connecting the Cayman 3220-H to your Network

  1. Connect your Network Interface Card to an RJ-45 port on the front of the 3220-H with twisted pair Ethernet cable.

  2. Insert one end of the DSL cable into the RJ-45 port on the 3220-H back panel. Insert the other end of the DSL cable into the
    telephone jack
    connected to your ADSL service.


             
  3. Power On the Cayman 3220-H.Plug the round end of the transformer cord into the power jack on the back panel of
    the 3220-H, plug the pronged end of the transformer cord into an electrical outlet.

Step 3

Opening a connection to the Cayman 3220-H

  1. Open your Web browser.
  2. >Type the name (cayman-dsl) or IP address (192.168.1.254) of your Cayman 3220-H in the browser's 
    Location:
    window and press Enter on your keyboard. 

  1. Select Manual Quickstart to continue.


         
  2. If the Cayman Quickstart window fails to appear, click Quickstart located in the top left-hand corner. 
        

  3. The Quickstart window allows you to display and modify IP address settings for the Cayman 3220-H.
    The initial "default configuration" should look similar to the following:


     
  4. Leave System Name as default.
  5. Enter the IP address assigned to you in the IP Address field. 
  6. Enter the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 in the Net Mask field.
  7. Enter the IP address of your default gateway in the Default Gateway field.
  8. Enter pacbell.net in the Domain Name field.
  9. Enter the server address closest to your area (see below) in the Primary Nameserver Address field. 
  10. Enter the secondary address closest to your area (see below) in the Secondary Nameserver Address field.
              
    San Francisco: 206.13.28.12
    Sacramento: 206.13.31.12
    Los Angeles: 206.13.29.12
    San Diego: 206.13.30.12
  1. Leave all remaining fields as default.
  2. Click the Save button to store your modified configuration in the Cayman 3220-H memory.


     
  3. Click the Restart Cayman-DSL button to restart your Cayman 3220-H with the new configuration.


     
  4. You will be prompted to Confirm Restart. Select Restart.


     
  5. Exit Cayman 3220-H by closing your Web browser.
  6. Restart your computer.

Step 4

Checking for connectivity

  1. Once your system restarts, launch your Web browser and go to an Internet site to verify that your
    connection is working.


       
  2. Congratulations! Your TCP/IP and Cayman configuration settings are entered correctly.
