How to Check your Netscape 4.0 Mail and News Preferences

  1. To begin checking your mail and news settings you must first open Netscape by double-clicking on the Netscape Communicator icon located on your desktop.
  2. Single-click on Edit at the top of the page.
  3. Go down to Preferences and single-click on it.
  4. Single-click on the little plus + sign next to Mail & Groups.
  5. Single-click on Identity.
  6. Under Your name type in your full name.
  7. Under E-mail address type in your e-mail address with Pacbell.
  8. Leave Reply to address empty.
  9. Under Organization type in Pacific Bell Internet Services.

  10. Note: This is optional, you don't have to put anything in organization.
  11. Leave Signature File empty.
  12. Left click one time on Mail Server in the column to the left.
  13. Under Mail server user name type in your Pacbell email address substituting a "%" for the "@".
    Example: username%pacbell.net
  14. Under Outgoing mail (SMTP) server type in mail.pacbell.net
  15. Under Incoming mail server type in postoffice.pacbell.net
  16. Under Mail Server Type select POP3.
  17. Single-click on More Options.
  18. If you would like Netscape to automatically check for mail, left click one time on the white box to the left of Check for mail every then enter the number of minutes you want Netscape to check for new messages.
  19. If you would like Netscape to remember your mail password left click in the white box next to Remember my mail password.
  20. Single-click on OK.
  21. Single-click on Groups Server in the column to the left.
  22. Under Discussion groups (news) server type in news.sf.sbcglobal.net or news.la.sbcglobal.net
  23. Leave Port set to default.
  24. Do not place a check in Secure.
  25. Congratulations! Your mail and news settings are correct.
