How to check your mail and news preferences on Netscape 4.5 or 4.6
- To begin checking your mail and news settings you must first open Netscape
by double-clicking the
Netscape Communicator icon located on your desktop.

- Single-click on Edit across the top of the page.

- Go down to Preferences and single-click on it.

- Single-click on the little plus + sign next to Mail & Newsgroups.

- Single-click on Identity.

- Under Your name type in your full name.
- Under E-mail address type in your e-mail address with Pacbell.
- Single-click on Mail Servers.

- Single-click on Edit. If Edit is not an option single-click on
Add.

- Under Server Name type in postoffice.pacbell.net
- Under Server Type select POP 3 server.
- Under User Name type in your Pacbell e-mail address substituting
a "%" for the "@".
Example: username%pacbell.net
- If you would like Netscape to remember your mail password, left click
in the white box next to Remember password.
- If you would like Netscape to check your mail automatically, place a
check in Check for mail every, then enter the
number of minutes you want Netscape to check for new messages.
- Single-click on the POP tab.

- Do not place a check in Leave messages on server.
- Single-click on OK.

- Under Outgoing mail (SMTP) server type in mail.pacbell.net
- Under Outgoing mail server user name type in your Pacbell email
address substituting a "%" for the "@".
Example: username%pacbell.net
- Leave Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) set to Never.
- Leave the Local mail directory set to default.
- Single-click on Newsgroup Servers.

- Single-click on Add.

- Under Server type in news.sf.sbcglobal.net or news.la.sbcglobal.net
- Leave Port set to default.
- Do not place a check in Supports encrypted connections (SSL).
- Do not place a check in Always use name and password.
- Single-click on OK.

- Single-click on OK.

Congratulations! Your mail and news settings are correct.
