How to check your settings on Internet Explorer 5.0

  1. To begin checking your I.E. 5.0 settings double-click on the My Computer icon located on you desktop.
  2. Double-click on the Control Panel icon.
  3. Double-click on the Internet Options icon.
  4. Under Home page the Address is the first page that will appear when opening Internet Explorer. You can choose

  5. whatever you prefer as a startup page. If you would like to use Pacbell's home page type in http://pacbell.prodigy.net
  6. Single-click on Settings.
  7. Under Check for newer versions on stored pages place a dot in Automatically.
  8. Under Amount of disk space to use the suggested setting is 32 MB. If you have a smaller hard drive

  9. you may want to use a lower setting. If you have a larger hard drive, you could use a higher setting.
  10. Single-click on OK.
  11. Single-click on the Security tab.
  12. Under Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings you can choose a security zone to use. These

  13. zones are here to help you control the different areas you go to while you are on the Internet, protecting you from
    unsecured web sites, or sending secured information while online. The suggested setting is the Internet zone set to a
    Medium security level. If you are frequently transferring secured information across the Internet, you may choose to try
    a higher security level.
  14. Single-click on the Content tab.
  15. The Content Advisor is a feature within Internet Explorer that allows you to control the type of content that you, and other users on

  16. your computer can view. For instance, you may choose to use the content advisor if young children are using the computer unsupervised.
  17. A certificate is an electronic "credit card" that establishes your credentials when doing business or other transactions on the Web. It contains your name, a serial number, expiration dates, a copy of the certificate holder's public key (used for encrypting and decrypting messages and digital signatures), and the digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority so that a recipient can verify that the certificate is real. This is only suggested for people that do numerous business transactions on the Web.
  18. Personal information assists you in making improved transactions over the Internet, although most web sites do not support this feature.We do not suggest setting up personal information.
  19. Single-click on the Connections tab.
  20. Under Dial-up settings select the Pacbell connection.
  21. Place a dot in Always dial my default connection.
  22. Single-click on Settings.
  23. Leave all check boxes in the Settings window blank.
  24. Under User name type in your username with Pacbell.

  25. Note: Your username is the first part of your e-mail address.
    Example: username@pacbell.net
  26. Under Password type in your password with Pacbell.
  27. Leave Domain blank.
  28. Single-click on OK.
  29. Single-click on the Programs tab.
  30. Select a program for each Internet service listed, whichever you wish to use.
  31. Do not place a check in Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser.
  32. Congratulations! Your basic Internet Explorer 5.0 settings are correct.
