How to check your mail settings on Outlook 98

  1. To begin checking your mail settings in Outlook 98 double-click on the My Computer icon located on your desktop.
  2. Double-click on the Control Panel icon.
  3. Double-click on the Mail icon.
  4. Under The following information services are set up in this profile highlight the one that you use for your Pacbell e-mail.
  5. Single-click on Properties.
  6. Under Name type in your full name.
  7. Under Organization type in Pacific Bell Internet Services.

  8. Note: This is optional, you don't have to put in anything for Organization.
  9. Under E-mail address type in your e-mail address with Pacbell.
  10. Under Reply address type in your e-mail address with Pacbell.
  11. Single-click on the Servers tab.
  12. Under Outgoing mail (SMTP) type in mail.pacbell.net
  13. Under Incoming mail (POP3) type in postoffice.pacbell.net
  14. Under Acount name type in your Pacbell e-mail address.

  15. Example: username@pacbell.net
  16. Under Password type in your password with Pacbell.
  17. Single-click on the Connection tab.
  18. Under Connection place a dot in Connect using my phone line if you are using your dial-up account to access the Internet. If you are using DSL, place a dot in Connect Using My Local Area Network and skip to step #18.
  19. Under Use the following Dial Up Networking connection select your Pacbell connection.
  20. Single-click on the Advanced tab.
  21. Under Server port numbers the Outgoing mail (SMTP) should read 25, the Incoming mail (POP3): 110,
    and This server requires a secure connection (SSL) remains unchecked.
  22. Set Server timeouts all the way to the right on 5 minutes.
  23. Do not place a check in Leave a copy of messages on server.
  24. Single-click on OK.
  25. Single-click on OK.
  26. Congratulations! Your basic Outlook 98 mail settings are correct.
